Volunteers In Police Service
Hermosa Beach Police
VIP Mission Statement
The mission of the Volunteers-In-Policing is to enhance and expand
the services that the Hermosa Beach Police Department provides to the
citizens of Hermosa Beach. This effort reinforces the honesty, integrity,
and compassion that is foundational in the ability to keep a safe and
friendly environment that exists for everyone in the community.
VIP Motto
Our motto VIRES IN MUNERIS, strength
in service, is a simple statement that the community, its members, and its
viability, depend upon the willing service of individuals working together.
Without such selfless acts of service, the fabric of the society in which we
live is weakened. The motto should help to motivate, encourage, inspire, and
remind each person to continue the cause.
VIP Core Values
COMPASSION
This is not just having sympathy and concern for
others. It means offering a helping hand, providing support to, and showing
mercy towards people. It begins by dealing with people in a polite, respectful
and helpful manner. It ends by asking others if you can help them with anything
else before you leave them. In many situations a smile and friendly attitude
can do wonders. The needs and feelings of our citizens should always be kept in mind.
HONESTY
Compassion has value when it is genuine and delivered in a sincere fashion.
The response to truthfulness is a belief that you will be trustworthy. Both the
citizens in the community and the members of the Hermosa Beach Police Department
place their trust in you as a volunteer who will act with honesty, to protect
property, and to prevent harm.
INTEGRITY
Integrity cannot be instilled externally. Individuals who
possess the honesty and fortitude to do the right thing and adhere to a set of
high moral and ethical values can achieve it. People who volunteer to serve
others already display much integrity. But integrity is not a onetime
achievement. It must constantly be placed at the forefront of consciousness and
behavior pattern.
EXCELLENCE
Like integrity, excellence should be a never-ending goal.
As volunteers we must give the best of ourselves in providing service to our
community. By asking the question, "Could I have provided better service," in a
particular situation, you can measure your performance against the standard of
excellence that we strive to achieve.
