Volunteers In Police Service
Hermosa Beach Police
AMBASSADORSHIP:
Volunteers In Police Service (VIPS) are considered
to be Ambassadors of the Hermosa Beach Chief of Police. They are official
representatives, joining the police with the public, into partnership. They
enhance a primary mission of the Hermosa Beach Police Department, which is to
forge a partnership and problem solving relationship between the police and
the community to control and prevent crime through strategic policing,
innovation, and proactive programs in an environment where people are treated
with dignity, equality and respect.
SERVICE:
The Hermosa Beach Police Department recognizes the resources of experience
and skills possessed by our community's residents. The purpose of the VIPS is
to utilize these resources to help accomplish the mission in an effective and
cost-efficient manner. The VIP program offers the opportunity for talented,
civic-minded Hermosa Beach citizens to serve their community.
PRIDE:
Because VIPs serve as additional eyes and ears for the Hermosa Beach Police
Department, as well as representatives of the City, it is imperative that they
maintain an image of professionalism at all times which parallels the
professionalism of the Hermosa Beach Police Department. Volunteers' appearance,
demeanor, and professionalism must never be compromised while serving in this
program. Each volunteer is selected with these attributes in mind. Volunteers
shall be aware that it is a privilege to be a civilian volunteer, not a right,
and that they serve at the discretion of the Chief.
